How Age Is Calculated
Age calculation seems simple, but correctly accounting for leap years and varying month lengths requires careful logic. The calculator works as follows:
- Years: Counts complete calendar years from your birth date to today. A year is only counted when the full anniversary has passed.
- Months: After subtracting complete years, counts remaining complete months. Accounts for months of different lengths (28, 29, 30, 31 days).
- Days: After subtracting complete years and months, counts remaining individual days.
- Leap years: February 29 birthdays are handled correctly — the anniversary falls on February 28 in non-leap years.
