Common Reasons to Rotate PDF Pages

  • Scanned documents: Scanners sometimes produce pages upside-down or sideways. Rotating fixes the orientation.
  • Mixed-orientation PDFs: Some documents mix portrait and landscape pages. Rotate individual pages to normalize orientation.
  • Photos inserted into PDFs: Images saved in landscape that need to be rotated to portrait for printing.
  • Received documents: PDFs sent by others may have pages in the wrong orientation.
  • Printing prep: Ensuring correct orientation before printing double-sided.

Common Reasons to Reorder PDF Pages

  • Reorganize scanned pages: Pages scanned out of order can be reordered without rescanning.
  • Move pages to front: Bring an appendix, cover page, or summary to the beginning.
  • Correct page merges: After merging multiple PDFs, reorder pages to the correct sequence.
  • Customize reports: Rearrange sections of a multi-page report for a specific audience.

How PDF Rotation Works

PDF pages have a rotation property stored in the file metadata. Rotating a page in this tool updates that metadata value without re-encoding the page content. This means:

  • Rotation is lossless — no image quality is lost, and text remains selectable.
  • The file size stays approximately the same as the original.
  • All content (text, images, annotations) is preserved exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rotate all pages at once?

Yes — use the Rotate All button to apply the same rotation direction and angle to every page simultaneously. You can still adjust individual pages afterwards.

Does this work with large PDFs?

Yes. Processing happens in your browser so there is no server-side file size limit. Very large PDFs (many pages with high-resolution images) may take a few seconds to process depending on your device.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser using pdf-lib and PDF.js. Your file never leaves your device and is not sent to any server.

Can I rotate by 180° to flip a page upside-down?

Yes — press the rotation button twice (either direction) to achieve a 180° rotation, which flips the page upside-down.
