- Improved mobile performance for users on slower connections.
JPEG vs PNG Compression
JPEG uses lossy compression — it discards some pixel data to achieve significant size reductions, making it ideal for photographs. PNG uses lossless compression and is best for graphics, logos, and images requiring transparency. Our compressor handles both formats and selects the appropriate algorithm automatically.
For web use, a quality setting of 75–85% typically reduces a 2MB photo to under 400KB with no visible difference to the human eye. If you need to change the file format entirely, try the Image Converter tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. All compression happens entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device and are never sent to any server.
What file formats are supported?
JPEG (JPG) and PNG are supported. For WebP conversion, use the Image Converter.
What quality setting should I use?
For web images, 75–85% quality is the sweet spot. For print or archival images, use 90%+. Use the preview to judge quality visually before downloading.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit — compression runs locally in your browser. Very large files (50MB+) may be slower on lower-powered devices, but they will process successfully.
